Class A Vehicles
Class A truck– Any combination of vehicles with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds (11,793 kg) provided the GVWR of the vehicle(s) being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds (4536 kg).

A few examples of the vehicles you MAY be able to drive with a Class A CDL
(with proper endorsements) include:
Tractor-Trailers
Truck and Trailer Combinations
Tanker Vehicles
Livestock Carriers
Flatbeds
PLEASE NOTE:
If the vehicle you test in has an Automatic transmission, your CDL will have that restriction and you will not be licensed to drive a manual transmission:
E = No manual transmission equipped CMV
"Skills test taken in a vehicle equipped with an automatic transmission."
If the vehicle you test in has a pintle hook connection, you will have that restriction and you will not be licensed to drive a vehicle with a fifth wheel connection:
O = No tractor-trailer CMV
"Skills test taken in a combination vehicle for a Class A with the power unit connected with a pintle hook or other non-fifth wheel connection."
MINIMUM TRAINING REQUIREMENT FOR WASHINGTON
Class A = 160 total hours, including at least:
40 hours - classroom instruction
18 hours - street driving training
16 hours - training in backing maneuvers
16 hours - proficiency development
70 hours - combined lab training, range training, & observation
